Two people killed and several injured in late-night US 290 crash
On the evening of August 30, 2025, authorities were called to a collision involving multiple vehicles at the junction of US Highway 290 North and Saratoga Farms Boulevard around 11:55 PM. An officer who happened to be at the nearby QT gas station rushed to the scene to assist in extracting several individuals from the vehicles, two of which were on fire. Unfortunately, one person, identified as 66-year-old Robbie Carter of McDade, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 13-year-old, Yareli Padierna from Elgin, was also tragically pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital. Multiple helicopters and ambulances were utilized to transport the injured to hospitals in Austin, where four individuals are still receiving treatment. The Elgin Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Team, Crime Scene Unit, and Command staff all responded to the incident. The cause of the crash is currently being investigated.
