
Two men from northeast Michigan die in plane crash near Lowell
Two individuals, Kevin Lawrence and Paul Schalk, both residents of the northeastern Lower Peninsula, were tragically killed in a plane crash near Lowell. The incident occurred at the intersection of Vergennes Street and Lincoln Lake Avenue on Monday around 4:30 p.m. The plane, originating from Alpena, crashed into the Whistle Stop Self Storage facility, leading to a large fireball and thick black smoke. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, with 13 fire departments collaborating to contain the fire. Lowell Area Fire Department Chief Cory Velzen commended the firefighter's rapid and effective efforts in handling the unique challenges presented by the crash. Investigations into the crash, supervised by federal officials, are ongoing as authorities work to determine the cause.
