Two killed in wrong-way crash on the Parkway East

Two women died after their vehicle was struck by a wrong-way driver on the Parkway East in Pittsburgh on Sunday evening, state police said.I-376 crash update: Watch full video of the police news conference aboveA Chevrolet Silverado was headed eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-376 near Second Avenue when it collided head-on with another pickup truck, Trooper Rocco Gagliardi said.Police said the driver of the second truck was pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger in that vehicle died after being taken to the hospital. They were identified as Shannon Morrow, 52, of Mt. Lebanon, and Sharon Orlofske, 77, of Monroeville.A third vehicle, driven by a man identified as Orlofske's son and Morrow's boyfriend, was also at the scene but avoided the wrong-way driver, Gagliardi said."The boyfriend is in front of the girlfriend's vehicle. At that time, the boyfriend sees the Silverado coming at him in the wrong direction. He is able to quickly swerve out of the way, and not getting struck head-on," Gagliardi said. "Unfortunately, at that time, he then witnesses the Silverado go directly into the vehicle behind him. That vehicle that gets struck on impact is including the driver, which is his girlfriend. ... The passenger in that vehicle was the mother of the boyfriend in front of them."See video from the I-376 crash scene abovePolice said charges of aggravated assault by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter are being filed against the Silverado driver, identified as Pedro Olan Morales.Police said they were still trying to determine the age of Morales, whose last known address was in North Carolina."From the moment we got the one call to the crash, it was a very short time frame, so it seems like they found the wrong way on an on-ramp right there near mile marker 71," Gagliardi said.Morales was taken to the hospital under suspicion of alcohol, with results still pending Monday, and police were discussing the possibility of additional charges with the district attorney's office, Gagliardi said.
