Two killed and others injured in beach accident near Hilton Head

Authorities in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, tragically reported a fatal boating incident that resulted in the loss of two lives and injuries to two others. The accident took place on the evening of Friday, June 27, in the Skull Creek area, prompting a swift response from emergency crews. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office detailed the event on Facebook, stating that upon arrival at the scene, they found a vessel carrying four individuals, two of whom were injured and immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the other two individuals were discovered deceased. Response teams including divers were mobilized for the rescue operation. A subsequent report from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources revealed that the missing individuals and two dogs were located inside the overturned boat. The deceased individuals were identified as Patsy Montgomery, 73, and James Montgomery, 76, both residents of Bluffton. The cause of death is yet to be determined by the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office. Initial findings from the SCDNR indicate that the boat apparently collided with a day marker in the Intracoastal Waterway. Investigations into the specific cause of the accident are ongoing, with authorities noting the operator of the vessel was among the deceased and no criminal charges are being considered at this time. Hilton Head Island Mayor Alan Perry also expressed his sympathy for the families affected by the tragedy, extending prayers for comfort during this difficult period.
