Two indictments revealed: Deadly accident near University of Delaware and unsolved murder of bank executive
The Attorney General of Delaware, alongside the state's newly elected governor, made a significant announcement about a number of criminal indictments in murder cases while highlighting a decrease in crime rates in the state. In an incident on April 29 near the University of Delaware campus, police encountered a suspected stolen U-Haul truck. The driver, Gordon Turner, allegedly tried to flee but crashed on Main Street, resulting in a fatality and injuries. Attorney General Kathy Jennings emphasized the impact of the incident, leading to Turner's indictment on charges including first-degree murder. Governor Matt Meyer underscored the importance of the indictments in fostering healing for affected families. Additionally, four individuals were indicted in a cold case related to the shooting death of Carrie Mondell in Wilmington in 2022. Authorities attributed her killing to gang-related crossfire, and the Attorney General noted the progress made towards resolving the case. The Governor pledged to uphold community safety and commended law enforcement efforts in reducing crime rates in Wilmington.
