Two fatalities result from car colliding with building in The Gulch

Early Friday morning in The Gulch neighborhood of Nashville, a tragic high-speed crash resulted in the loss of two lives. The incident took place at the intersection of 12th Avenue South and Demonbreun Street around 2:45 a.m. An SUV collided with a taxi van and subsequently crashed into the base of a 5-story building, specifically the storefront of Del Frisco's Grille. Two passengers in the taxi lost their lives, while the taxi driver and another individual sustained critical injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Authorities suspect that the SUV, reportedly stolen, was involved in street racing with another vehicle before the deadly crash occurred. Following the collision, three individuals from the SUV transferred to the other car involved in the race which then fled the scene. The driver of the SUV, once discharged from the hospital, will be apprehended by law enforcement. Despite the devastation, the brother of the taxi driver has shared that his sibling is expected to pull through. The affected area experienced road closures while the investigation unfolded, and no further details have been disclosed at present.
