Two fatalities in car crash involving Alhambra police officer
A tragic accident on Thursday morning resulted in the deaths of an Alhambra police officer and another individual, as reported by the police chief. The California Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the incident, but details leading up to the crash have not been released immediately. According to CHP Asst. Chief Joe Zizi, the crash occurred around 3 a.m. near Wast Valley Boulevard and Edgewood Drive involving the officer's patrol unit and another vehicle with three occupants. Unfortunately, one person passed away at the scene, while another was hospitalized with serious injuries, and the driver, who sustained moderate injuries, was being interviewed by authorities. The fallen officer was identified as 28-year-old Alec Sanders, who had been with the Alhambra Police Department for over 8 months after serving at Long Beach Police Department for more than a year. Described as a dedicated family man and known for his steadfast reliability, Sanders was honored in a procession near the Los Angeles General Medical Center by police and fire units. Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his condolences on the loss of Officer Sanders, praising him as a "dedicated public servant" and ordering flags at the State Capitol to be flown at half-staff in his honor.
