Two dead in NKY restaurant crash involving dump truck and SUV.
Two individuals lost their lives and another sustained critical injuries following an accident where a dump truck collided with a restaurant in Boone County on Tuesday afternoon. Responding to a report from Boone County dispatchers, emergency services were dispatched to the area of U.S. Route 42 and Beaver Road, near Boonedocks Pub & Grub restaurant around 4 p.m. The Boone County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident began with a left turn, as a 66-year-old SUV driver made the turn from Beaver Road onto Highway 42 directly into the path of a dump truck carrying gravel. Despite the dump truck driver's efforts to avoid the collision, the vehicles collided, causing the SUV to hit a guardrail and overturn. While the SUV driver sustained critical injuries and was hospitalized, two passengers in the SUV, Eva Mulberry, 91, and Betty Hillard, 89, tragically lost their lives. The crash also resulted in the dump truck hitting parked vehicles in the restaurant's parking lot before crashing into the restaurant. Thankfully, no individuals inside the restaurant were harmed, and the dump truck driver is currently recovering in the hospital. Authorities stated that factors contributing to the incident include limited visibility at the intersection due to the road's landscape. As of now, no charges have been filed, and both drivers are cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Following the accident, the road was closed for several hours before reopening at 10:40 p.m. A witness inside the restaurant described the impact as resembling the sound of a freight train crashing through the wall, with chairs overturned and debris scattered throughout the building.
