Two collisions involving CHP car and impaired driver result in 4 fatalities, 2 injuries

Update: Initial reports indicated that a single crash had occurred, but a recent update from law enforcement revealed that two separate crashes took place on the 605 Freeway in Norwalk. Tragically, four individuals lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries during the incidents. At around 1 a.m. on Sunday, the California Highway Patrol discovered that there were actually two collisions that took place, with one involving a CHP cruiser. One of the vehicles, a Nissan carrying four occupants, initially clipped the squad car on the southbound span and became disabled in the freeway lanes. Subsequently, a Kia with two occupants collided with the disabled Nissan, causing the latter to catch fire, resulting in the death of the four occupants. The driver of the Kia, a female who was suspected to be impaired, along with her passenger, were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The CHP officer in the squad car was unharmed. Authorities highlighted that the entire tragedy could have been avoided if better decisions were made, stressing that driving under the influence was a contributing factor. Once the female driver is released from the hospital, she will face multiple felony charges. Motorists should be aware that the affected southbound section of the 605 is closed due to the "major crash." Please follow KTLA for further updates on this developing situation.
