Two additional suspects accused in 2024 Belt Parkway insurance fraud, staged accidents on New York City roads

Two additional individuals have been implicated in a planned car accident scheme that took place on the Belt Parkway in October 2024. Maikel Martinez was also previously charged in this case, and his trial is still ongoing. The accused men are said to have orchestrated deliberate car crashes with the intention of fraudulently collecting insurance money. Brooklyn residents Jaime Huiracocha, 53, and Victor Murillo, 34, are facing multiple charges related to the staged accidents. These charges include, among others, arranging a motor vehicle incident, endangering public safety, plotting, and insurance deceit. They have been formally charged and are summoned to appear in court in September. A guilty verdict on the main charge could result in a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison for each of them. City officials are urging anyone who suspects they may have been a victim of insurance fraud to contact the Insurance Fraud Hotline at 888-372-8369 or submit a report online at dfs.ny.gov/consumers.
