Turnpike closure following crash near Emporia and Topeka
Update 11:10 a.m.: Traffic disruptions on I-335 have cleared. Emporia (KSNT) - A crash has led to the closure of northbound Highway I-335 just north of Emporia. Troopers responded to the incident at 6:45 a.m. on this section of the Kansas Turnpike, approximately 17 miles north of Emporia. According to Kandrive.gov, I-335 northbound is closed between mile marker 146 and mile marker 166. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has established a detour at Exit 147, located east of Admire. A trooper from the Kansas Highway Patrol informed 27 News that the Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) handled two accidents in the region, attributing them to heavy fog. The first accident involved two semi trucks, while the second involved a semi truck, a passenger car, and a van. Apart from one of the semi truck drivers, all other occupants were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The KDOT detour guides drivers to head northeast on Highway 56, then transition to Highway 75 north towards Topeka. KTA has confirmed the presence of troopers on site collecting information about the multi-vehicle injury crash. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Topeka issued a dense fog advisory effective until noon on Wednesday, causing reduced visibility conditions with visibility dropping to one-quarter mile or less in certain areas.
