
Trucker accused in deadly accident on Egnatia Odos road
A truck driver involved in a tragic accident on the Egnatia Odos highway in northern Greece has been charged with manslaughter due to negligence, dangerous bodily harm, and reckless driving. The driver, who is a Bulgarian national, is currently recovering in stable condition at Komotini General Hospital following surgery. Once he is well enough, he will provide his testimony. The collision occurred near the Komotini tolls and resulted in the loss of three lives. The accident was caused by a car that either stopped or slowed down approximately 600 meters from the Iasmos toll station. The truck collided with the car, causing a fire that tragically claimed the lives of three occupants. Another individual, a 49-year-old woman, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at Kavala General Hospital. Additionally, a second car carrying relatives of the victims was also hit by the burning vehicle, but thankfully, they were able to escape and received medical attention.
