Truck driver's distraction leads to fatal crash on I-90, claiming life of Bozeman woman

A tragic accident on Interstate 90 resulted in the loss of a 42-year-old Bozeman woman's life on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Montana Highway Patrol report, a 53-year-old Billings man, driving a Peterbilt truck in the eastbound lane, collided with multiple vehicles that had slowed down due to a construction zone near mile marker 311. The truck driver admitted to troopers that he was distracted by checking his email at the time of the accident. Failing to reduce speed in the construction zone, the truck rear-ended a VW Golf driven by the deceased Bozeman woman. The impact also involved a Subaru driven by a 69-year-old Laurel woman, leading to a chain reaction that affected a Ford Explorer driven by a 35-year-old man with a 9-year-old girl as a passenger. Both the Subaru and Ford veered off the right side of the road after being hit by the truck. The Peterbilt truck itself then went off the road, striking a fence. Tragically, the Bozeman woman was declared dead at the scene.
