Truck driver in fatal Florida U-turn crash 'grieving,' victims identified.
The lawyer representing the truck driver involved in a fatal crash in South Florida expressed that his client is devastated and worried about what lies ahead. The incident occurred when 28-year-old Harjinder Singh, an undocumented immigrant from India, made an illegal U-turn on the Florida Turnpike, leading to a collision with a minivan that resulted in the deaths of three individuals. The victims were identified as Herby Dufresne, Faniola Joseph, and Rodrique Dor. Although not officially representing Singh, attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, from the group Sikhs for Justice, mentioned that Singh deeply regrets his actions. Pannun also highlighted that Singh had fled to the US in 2018 due to persecution fears related to his Sikh faith and political beliefs. The case has led to political discussions regarding Singh's immigration status, prompting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to implement immigration checkpoints at truck inspection sites in the state. Singh's situation has raised concerns of potential discrimination against other Sikh truck drivers in Florida.
