Truck driver in fatal Florida Turnpike crash allegedly entered U.S. unlawfully, officials report

A truck driver who allegedly caused a fatal crash on Florida's Turnpike by making an illegal U-turn has been charged with vehicular homicide and immigration offenses. The incident occurred on Aug. 12 in Fort Pierce, resulting in the deaths of three South Florida residents. Authorities confirmed that the driver, Harjinder Singh, was in the U.S. illegally and entered the country from Mexico in 2018. The driver of the minivan involved in the crash, along with two passengers, tragically lost their lives. Singh's questionable acquisition of a commercial driver's license has raised concerns, with questions about how he obtained the license despite his immigration status. Singh is currently facing state charges and will be transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after the conclusion of his criminal case.
