Truck collides with building in Boston Chinatown, multiple injuries
A truck collided with a building on Tuesday afternoon in the Chinatown neighborhood of Boston near Downtown Crossing, resulting in injuries to multiple individuals. The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of Kneeland Street and Harrison Avenue. Although surveillance footage captured the truck accelerating down the street before the collision and bystanders rushing to aid the victims, the crash itself was not recorded. Following the accident, four individuals were transported to the hospital, with two initially in critical condition. One of these critical patients was later upgraded, leaving one person with serious injuries by Tuesday evening. Authorities, including Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox, expressed that there is no evidence to suggest the crash was intentional, leaning towards characterizing it as a tragic accident. Mayor Michelle Wu stated that the city's building inspector will evaluate the building damage before deciding on reopening. Emergency responders, including firefighters, had to extract the trapped driver from the truck’s cab post-collision. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with individuals stepping in to assist the victims. The area was cordoned off, with officials unsure of the cause of the crash. The incident will be thoroughly investigated using surveillance footage from nearby cameras.
