Truck collides with Amtrak train near Lompoc, causing injuries and fuel spill
Four individuals were hurt and a large amount of diesel fuel leaked after an Amtrak train crashed into a disabled semi-truck blocking the tracks near Lompoc. The incident occurred during the afternoon on Wednesday. Amtrak Train 14, traveling from Los Angeles to Seattle, collided with the truck just past the Lompoc-Surf station in Santa Barbara County. An Amtrak representative stated that there were 218 passengers and crew members on board at the time of the crash. Following the collision, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department arrived at the scene near Highway 1 and Brown Road and transported the injured to Marian Regional Medical Center. The truck driver suffered severe injuries, while three passengers sustained minor injuries. Approximately 3,600 gallons of diesel fuel leaked as a result of the crash. Despite the impact, the train remained on the tracks, and passengers were advised to stay on board until alternative transportation arrived. The current closure of Highway 1 spans from Main Street to Brown Road. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident, with Amtrak police collaborating with local law enforcement. Tragically, a similar accident occurred in June, resulting in the death of a truck driver after a Metrolink train collided with a semi-truck near Moorpark. Additionally, in July, a woman lost her arm in Ventura when she was struck by a train while crossing railroad tracks with a bicycle.
