Trooper seriously injured in North Shore crash

A Massachusetts State Police trooper was seriously injured after their cruiser was struck on the North Shore Saturday afternoon.According to a state police spokesperson, the collision occurred around 2:15 p.m. when the trooper was removing a ladder from the left travel lane of I-95 south in Salisbury just prior to I-495.After removing the ladder, the trooper returned to his cruiser and buckled his seatbelt.According to the spokesperson, a vehicle struck the back of the cruiser moments later without warning.The trooper was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire with serious injuries.Officials said the trooper is from the Newbury Barracks and that he had his lights on when he was stopped.The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Lawrence General Hospital with unknown injuries. It's unclear if they will face any charges.MassDOT crews responded to the scene to secure the ladder and clear debris from the roadway.The three left-most lanes remain closed at this time, according to state police.No further information was immediately available.
