
Trooper seriously hurt in Pittsylvania County collision
A Virginia State Police trooper was severely injured on Saturday in Pittsylvania County after a car collided with a patrol vehicle on U.S. Highway 29. The incident occurred around 2:05 p.m. when two troopers were on the southbound side of the highway assisting a disabled tractor-trailer. A 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser rear-ended one patrol vehicle, causing it to strike one trooper and then another police vehicle. The injured trooper was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, while the second trooper was unharmed. The driver of the Chrysler was charged with reckless driving. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, as both patrol vehicles had their emergency lights on and were positioned to safeguard the disabled tractor-trailer.
