Trial ongoing for Mayor A.J. Scott in fatal crash in Carroll County.

The mayor of Buchanan, Georgia, is currently facing a retrial nearly ten years after a tragic accident that resulted in the death of two teenagers and serious injuries to two others. Anthony James "A.J." Scott, who was working as a Georgia State Patrol trooper at the time of the incident in 2015, is being charged with multiple offenses including two counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, two counts of causing serious injury by vehicle, speeding, and reckless driving. Scott is accused of driving at a high speed on U.S. Highway 27 when his patrol car collided with a vehicle carrying four individuals, resulting in the deaths of 16-year-old Isabella Chinchilla and 17-year-old Kylie Lindsey, as well as severe injuries to driver Dillon Wall and passenger Benjamin Finken. The trial commenced last week after a two-day jury selection process, with the start of testimonies on Wednesday. Scott's previous trial in 2019 ended in a mistrial due to the discovery of undisclosed evidence regarding the seating position of one of the victims. The defense argues that the accident was caused by poor visibility rather than Scott's driving, while the prosecutors maintain that Scott's excessive speed over a hill was the primary cause of the tragic collision.
