Train strikes car stuck on tracks in Voorheesville
A vehicle became stuck on railroad tracks in the Village of Voorheesville Friday night and was struck by a CSX freight train. Deputies from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of North Main Street and Grove Street around 9 p.m. after receiving report of the crash. Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says no one involved was injured. The sheriff says as the train approached the crossing, both the driver and passenger were able to safely exit the vehicle before the train struck it. CSX personnel cooperated with the investigation, and dash camera footage from the train helped investigators determine the circumstances of the incident. About two hours later, deputies responded to a second incident at the same location after another vehicle failed to negotiate the turn, left the roadway, and became stuck on the railroad tracks. Deputies located a CSX employee in the area, trains were stopped, and the vehicle was safely removed from the tracks. The roadway and rail line reopened shortly after midnight.
