Tragic road rage incident claims life of ex-Corpus Christi resident in Austin

An ex-resident of Corpus Christi lost his life in a road rage incident near the 116600 block of North Interstate 35 Proper during the weekend. The Austin Police Department (APD) got a high-priority call at 3:46 a.m. on Sunday, March 18, according to NBC affiliate KXAN. Upon arrival, the Austin Fire Department (AFD) found a collision involving a Ford Bronco and a black Mitsubishi Mirage. AFD rescued the Mitsubishi's driver, identified later as 47-year-old Edward Espino, and tried to save his life, but he was declared deceased at 4:14 a.m. Even though signs pointed to a car crash, AFD spotted a gunshot wound on Espino's body while extracting him from the wreckage, prompting APD investigators to announce Espino's death as a homicide. The Bronco's driver was interrogated, and authorities believed he had no connection to the homicide; however, the investigation is ongoing. Individuals with information should reach out to APD at 512-974-TIPS. Espino, a former staff member of KRIS 6 News/Action 10 News, was prominent in the Coastal Bend theater and arts scene, participating in various stage productions at local venues and featuring in independent movies.
