Tragic plane crash in Wyoming mountains leads to girl's death and 3 family members injured

A tragic incident in the mountains of northern Wyoming resulted in the death of a 13-year-old girl and injuries to three family members. According to authorities, a small plane crashed late Monday near Big Mountain in the Bighorn Mountains, about 15 miles west of Sheridan. The wreckage was located by a medical service helicopter that was requested to fly over the area in the Bighorn National Forest. A rescue operation was initiated, with a command post set up at a nearby parking lot off U.S. 14. Rescuers attended to the victims at the crash site, where they found the girl deceased and her three relatives - an 11-year-old boy, a 53-year-old woman, and a 54-year-old man - seriously injured. Two survivors were transported by air to a hospital in Billings, Montana, and one to a hospital in Sheridan. The deceased girl was also airlifted to the command post and transferred to the Sheridan County Coroner. The victims' identities had not been released as the investigation was ongoing. However, according to reports, the family was from Boise, with the Idaho Statesman identifying the deceased girl as Amelia Palmer. A fundraising campaign for the family had raised over $25,000 by Wednesday morning. Federal Aviation Administration investigators were on their way to the scene to assess the situation. The plane involved in the crash was identified as a Piper PA-28-180 by the National Transportation Safety Board. Sheriff Levi Dominguez expressed appreciation for the joint efforts of all the responders and extended condolences to the victims' family.
