Tragic multi-vehicle crash claims lives of Valley teen and 4 others

A teen from a Valley and four grown-ups were killed in a multi-car accident on Interstate 40, as stated by officials. The Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers attended to a collision on the westbound I-40 at milepost 294 near Holbrook, on March 14. After a preliminary examination, DPS discovered that a semi-trailer struck the back of a Cadillac Escalade, initiating a chain reaction involving a Jeep Wrangler and another semi-truck. Five individuals lost their lives in the accident, and two sustained injuries. The victims who perished were identified by DPS: Adam Mychajliw, aged 17, from Scottsdale, Arizona; Sophia Case, aged 17, from Fort Collins, Colorado; Sarah Broyel-Case, aged 50, from Fort Collins, Colorado; Samuel Case, aged 51, from Fort Collins, Colorado; Jeet Vikram, aged 34, from Ozone Park, New York. DPS explained that the crash occurred amid heavy traffic congestion due to detours caused by road closures in Arizona's high country as a result of a winter storm. ABC15 obtained information that Adam Mychajliw, aged 17, was a senior at Saguaro High School. A fellow student accompanying Adam also suffered injuries from the accident, according to the school statement. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
