Tragic incident in Colorado claims 6 lives, including high school student: Authorities
Six individuals tragically lost their lives in an incident described by officials in Colorado as a "dairy accident." Responding to a confined space rescue at Prospect Ranch in Keenesburg, officials from the Southeast Weld Fire Protection District found the deceased individuals instead of conducting rescue operations. The victims, all male, will be identified once their next-of-kin are notified. One victim has been identified as a student at Highland High School in the Weld RE-9 School District, prompting the district to offer counseling and support services to the community. Authorities are investigating the possibility of gas exposure in a confined space as the cause of the deaths which, pending autopsy and toxicology results, are officially undetermined. The incident involved a burst pipe leading to the release of harmful gases, including hydrogen sulfide. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is leading the investigation. Dairy Farmers of America issued a statement expressing condolences and sadness over the "tragic accident."
