Tragic car accident claims life of wild horse in Corolla
In Corolla, North Carolina, a wild horse named Francisco tragically passed away after being struck by a car early Monday morning. The incident was reported by a driver who called 911 around 5am after the collision occurred on Sandpiper Road. Francisco, a 10-year-old stallion, was a beloved member of the community with a family that included four mares, a yearling colt, and a four-month-old colt. A veterinarian from the Corolla Wild Horse Fund determined that Francisco had suffered multiple severe injuries, including fractures to his radius and ulna, a ruptured eye, fractured ribs, and a possibly ruptured diaphragm. Unfortunately, these injuries proved fatal. The Corolla Wild Horse Fund urged caution for drivers, emphasizing that tragic accidents like this can be prevented with care on the roads.
