Tragic Austrian Hiking Accident Claims the Lives of Father and Son
Two Israeli hikers tragically lost their lives in Austria's Stubai Alps on Monday. Eyal Keren, 58, slipped on a treacherous path during bad weather and fell about 150 meters. His son Omer, 30, tried to rescue him and also fell, plummeting 370 meters to his death. Another son, Yuval, witnessed the tragedy and attempted CPR before rescue teams arrived. The Keren family from Koranit, Israel, had been hiking the popular Stubai Trail near Innsbruck. The family had traveled to Germany on Sunday, rented a car, and driven to Austria for a long-planned trip. Austrian authorities suspect that low visibility and poor weather conditions may have led to the accident. The terrain, although considered suitable for hikers, contains challenging sections that demand experience and favorable conditions. Eyal Keren, a maintenance manager, was an experienced hiker who never took risks. Both of his sons had military backgrounds. The rescuers involved in the recovery described the location as extremely demanding, even for skilled hikers. The tragic incident occurred on the family's second day of hiking, following an overnight stay at a mountain cabin along the trail.
