Tragic accidental shooting claims life of Milwaukee teenager; gun safety concerns raised.
A 13-year-old in Milwaukee tragically lost their life due to an accidental shooting that took place near 32nd and Vliet on July 16. According to police, the incident occurred when a suspect mishandled a firearm, resulting in the teen's death. This heartbreaking event was witnessed by neighbor Joyce Elm who described the emotional scene of the ambulance and coroner arriving on the site. Two 14-year-olds have been taken into custody, and charges are pending. The community is reeling from the increase in juvenile firearm-related incidents this year, as 13 children have lost their lives to gun violence compared to 10 during the same period last year. A total of 42 children have been shot non-fatally so far this year. Elm emphasizes the importance of securing firearms and highlights the need for action to address the violence in the city. The Milwaukee Police Department has urged residents to secure their firearms with gun locks to prevent such tragedies in the future.
