
Tragic Accident on US 131 near Big Rapids Causes Sibling Deaths
Two individuals tragically lost their lives in a fiery single-vehicle accident on US 131 near Big Rapids last Sunday. The incident occurred when the vehicle, traveling at high speed, veered off the road and collided with an overpass, leading to a full blaze. Authorities, including deputies from the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office and the Big Rapids Fire Department, arrived at the scene to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, emergency responders discovered the bodies of the two victims, identified as Mark Lewis, 59, from Kentwood, Michigan, and his sister, Tamyra Northern, 61, from Prior Lake, Minnesota. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and various agencies, including the Michigan State Police and Osceola EMS, were involved in the response efforts. The road closure of the southbound lanes of US 131 is expected to remain in place until the overpass can be evaluated and repaired by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
