Tragic Accident: Mother Fatally Hits 1-Year-Old in Long Beach
A tragic car accident occurred in Long Beach on Wednesday night, resulting in the death of a one-year-old child following injuries sustained during the incident. Long Beach officials report that the Long Beach Police Department responded to the collision, which took place around 6 p.m. on Wednesday on Ackerfield Avenue. The child was being provided medical help by Long Beach Fire Department crews when officers arrived on the scene. Despite efforts made by paramedics and medical staff at a local hospital, the child tragically did not survive their injuries. The preliminary investigation by the department suggests that the accident occurred as the child's mother was maneuvering her vehicle within a carport area of an apartment complex. The child, unbeknownst to the mother, walked in front of the moving vehicle and was subsequently struck. Impaired or distracted driving does not seem to be factors in the collision, according to LBPD statements. The officials did not release the name or any identifying details of the child involved. Those who witnessed the incident are urged to contact Detective Ashley Van Holland at the Long Beach Police Department's Collision Investigation unit.
