Tragic accident claims lives of two riders, leaves third in critical condition in British Supersport race at Oulton Park
Shortly after the start of the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race at Oulton Park, a serious accident involving 11 bikes occurred at Turn 1. Tragically, two riders lost their lives and one is currently in critical condition. The incident caused the race to be stopped, allowing medical teams to assist the injured riders. The MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR) and Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board (MCRCB) described the event as a "chain reaction incident" in their statement. Among the affected riders was Shane Richardson, who passed away on his way to the hospital, and Owen Jenner, who suffered a fatal head injury. Another rider, Tom Tunstall, is in critical condition with severe injuries. The MSVR confirmed that five riders were treated for minor injuries and released, while three others emerged unharmed. The investigation into the accident is ongoing in collaboration with the coroner and Cheshire Constabulary. The British Supersport Championship, which features 600cc motorcycles, has served as a significant platform for talented riders such as Cal Crutchlow, Tom Sykes, Jonathan Rea, and twins Sam and Alex Lowes.
