Tragic: 8-Year-Old Boy Fatally Struck Crossing Brooklyn Street
On Saturday afternoon, as the sun was setting, a tragic incident unfolded during eight-year-old Mordechai Keller's walk home from his grandmother's house. Known for his joyful and kind nature, Mordechai was unfortunately struck and killed by an SUV while crossing Eastern Parkway with his older sister. The vehicle, a black Honda Pilot driven by a 69-year-old man heading south on Albany Avenue, hit Mordechai at 5:33 p.m., as reported by the police. Despite prompt arrival of emergency responders, Mordechai succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital shortly afterward. Described as a boy who cherished life and possessed a friendly demeanor, Mordechai was a beloved member of the Chabad community in Crown Heights. The incident left witnesses in shock as the street was closed off by the police, and members of the Jewish aid organization Misaskim collected Mordechai's belongings and clothing following religious customs. Accompanied by his sister, who has a learning disability, Mordechai was returning home after visiting their grandmother. While the driver stayed at the scene and was not detained, bystanders noted his somber demeanor, describing the event as tragic rather than reckless. This heart-wrenching moment, which brought the city to a standstill, created an indelible impact on Mordechai's family. As one teacher reflected fondly on Mordechai, expressing, "I loved that boy. He was a great kid."
