Traffic stop by deputy leads to accident causing severe injuries
Early on Saturday morning, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a traffic collision at the corner of La Salle St. and Chelton Rd. CSPD officers arrived at the scene to find a two-car crash, with one driver being ejected from their vehicle and sustaining serious injuries. This driver was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening wounds, and their condition remains unclear. The incident was deemed severe, prompting the Major Crash Team to lead the investigation. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office had initiated a traffic stop on one of the vehicles involved in the collision, but the driver attempted to flee, leading to a brief police pursuit that was later discontinued by the sheriff's deputy. Unfortunately, the fleeing driver subsequently got involved in the crash at the intersection. Fortunately, no other individuals were harmed in the accident, and the identity of the driver in question has not been disclosed by CSPD. No information has been provided regarding any potential arrests.
