Traffic light needed at Port St. Lucie intersection
A recent fatal car accident in Port St. Lucie this Memorial Day has drawn attention to safety concerns at the intersection of Glades Cut Off Road and Commerce Center Drive. Residents and businesses in the area have reported witnessing numerous close calls at the intersection and are calling for the installation of a traffic light. The intersection has seen an alarming number of accidents, with 31 crashes since 2020, two of them resulting in fatalities. The increased traffic due to the Wylder development nearby has exacerbated the problem, making it challenging for drivers to navigate the area safely. Stakeholders in the community, such as Tom Ortolivo and Brian Packard, emphasize the urgent need for a traffic light to ensure the safety of road users. While the city of Port St. Lucie has stated that the developer of the Wylder community is obligated to install a traffic signal by the end of 2025, residents like Packard hope that this solution will be implemented sooner to prevent further accidents at this problematic intersection.
