Traffic disrupted on I-35 for almost 11 hours due to deadly crash and deputy accident
Investigators spent almost 11 hours on the northbound section of Interstate 35 in McClain County on Sunday, examining two crashes that caused major traffic disruptions. These incidents included one fatal accident and another involving a deputy. The area near mile marker 91, close to Purcell, was finally cleared after 3 p.m., allowing traffic to flow smoothly again following nearly 11 hours of congestion and detours. The McClain County Sheriff's Office received reports of a tractor-trailer accident around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. The truck caught fire, leading to a fatal crash that resulted in the closure of the northbound lanes of I-35. At around 7 a.m., a McClain County deputy was struck while assisting at the scene. Scott Gibbons, from the Sheriff's Office, stated that a driver failed to yield to their vehicle and collided with the deputy's vehicle at high speed. Fortunately, the deputy was wearing a seatbelt and sustained only minor injuries. As drivers head home this evening and prepare for the Monday morning commute, Gibbons urged them to stay alert and ensure they are wearing seatbelts.
