Traffic congestion shuts down southbound Powers Boulevard

A major car collision occurred in Colorado Springs near North Carefree Circle on North Powers Boulevard, involving approximately 11 vehicles. The incident initially reported to dispatchers at 4:15 p.m. involved a multi-car crash in the southbound lanes of Powers just north of N. Carefree. The Colorado Springs Police Department confirmed that while 11 cars were estimated to have been involved, some were not severely damaged and were able to drive away after the initial examination. Six individuals were transported to the hospital for injuries, with four sustaining serious injuries and two minor ones. All individuals were reported to be in stable condition as of the latest update. The cause of the crash is currently unknown, with no indications of drugs or alcohol involved. Speeding and distracted driving are being considered as potential factors. Rescue crews were able to extricate a trapped individual from the crash as efforts to clear the area continue. Traffic closure is expected to persist for roughly another hour. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
