Traffic affected by tractor-trailer incident on Delaware Memorial Bridge on Friday morning

A tractor-trailer cab drove off the side of the Delaware Memorial Bridge and into the Delaware River on Friday morning, according to officials. The cab was traveling on the downslope of the bridge's southbound side when it veered across three lanes of traffic, struck a concrete barrier, broke through, and fell into the water below, as stated in a news release by the Delaware River and Bay Authority. It is unknown how many individuals were in the vehicle, and fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the incident. The crash occurred at approximately 3:40 a.m. Various dive teams and marine crews, such as those from the DRBA and the U.S. Coast Guard, are currently conducting water searches, but no rescues or recoveries have been made yet. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter has been observed circulating the area according to FlightAware records. Traffic on the southbound side of the bridge is being affected by the crash, with the left lane closed for investigation and the right lane previously closed for construction.
