Traffic accident shuts down northbound I-65 in Marion County

A crash and subsequent fire led to the closure of Interstate 65 northbound near mile marker 109 in Indianapolis on Sunday night. The Indiana Department of Transportation notified that the closure was due to the crash, and later mentioned a fire had damaged an overpass bridge above railroad tracks at the same location. Traffic was diverted off the interstate onto Raymond Street while crews worked on the bridge. An inspector determined the bridge was structurally sound around 8:38 p.m., leading to the reopening of all lanes of I-65 northbound. The closure lasted over two hours. Indiana State Police, responsible for investigating the incident, did not provide additional details on the crash apart from confirming at least one injury. The cause of the crash and fire remains unknown at this time.
