Traffic accident shuts down I-70 in west Indianapolis
A fatal accident on I-70 west of downtown Indianapolis caused delays during the Monday morning rush hour. The Indiana Department of Transportation reported that the incident occurred on I-70 eastbound near mile marker 76.7 between Holt Road and Tibbs Avenue at approximately 5 a.m. The crash, as per INDOT's notification, resulted in a fatality. Indiana State Police confirmed that a wrong-way driver was involved in the collision with two vehicles. Nick Klingkammer from ISP mentioned that there were multiple reports of a vehicle driving in the wrong direction on I-70's eastbound lanes, leading to a head-on crash at mile marker 77. Sadly, one driver lost their life, and the other was hospitalized with serious injuries. The highway was shut down for investigation and accident reconstruction, causing significant delays. Motorists are advised to anticipate prolonged wait times and find an alternative path. ISP recommended that drivers heading south on Holt Road take West Morris Street east as the optimal detour to rejoin the interstate.
