Tractor-trailer driver charged in deadly I-81 crash
Charges were brought against a truck driver in Franklin County for his involvement in a fatal crash on I-81 last year. The individual, identified as 71-year-old Jose Guimares from Florida, has been accused of causing the collision which resulted in the death of a passenger. Following the incident, State Police reported that Guimares, driving a 1999 Freightliner, rear-ended another vehicle before crossing lanes and coming to a stop in the grassy median. Charges include homicide by vehicle and three traffic violations. Investigations by the Pennsylvania State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit led to the determination that Guimares' actions were responsible for the tragic outcome. Guimares is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing.
