Tractor-trailer crash in Johnston County closes NB I-95 north of Four Oaks

FOUR OAKS, N.C. (WNCN) -- A tractor-trailer crash Saturday afternoon has closed Interstate 95 northbound for several hours in Johnston County, officials said. The wreck was reported just after 12 p.m. along I-95 north near mile marker 90, which is near U.S. 701/N.C. 96 and between Smithfield and Four Oaks, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The crash happened when a tractor-trailer was driven off the highway and into some trees, Johnston County officials said. The wreck only involved the tractor-trailer. Around 2:40 p.m., the left lane of I-95 reopened but traffic was backed up at least a mile to Keen Road, according to NCDOT data and images. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but the condition of the driver was not available. NCDOT officials said the highway was clear around 3:10 p.m. but then soon closed the entire northbound direction of I-95 again. A traffic camera at the scene showed officials directing all vehicles off I-95 at exit 90. State officials said the highway would reopen after 6 p.m. There was no word on what caused the crash.
