Timonium community welcomes injured teen home after crash

A Baltimore County teenager, who was seriously injured in a deadly crash earlier this month, was greeted by numerous community members in Timonium on Friday.Liam O'Donoghue, 16, was released Friday from the Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, exactly four weeks after the crash on May 1."It's absolutely a miracle. It (is) amazing to see the community rally behind Liam. Coming home is such a big milestone for him," said Sheritta Gilchrist, who is a friend of the family. "It's really a blessing to give back to the O'Donoghue family, who has poured into this community. Everything that they do, for anyone who needs it, they are there."Liam was one of three passengers inside the car that hit a tree near the intersection of Poplar Mill and Merrymans Mill roads in Phoenix. The 16-year-old lost an arm and also sustained other serious injuries."To stand in the face of breaking two femurs and to build the walking again, I have no doubt, because of his athleticism, because of his ability to bounce back, he's going to come right back," said Ryan Kavalsky, a friend of the family. "He's home, he's got a lot of support. A lot of love to the family, this is a way to love on a family that's loved the community so deeply. It sets a really great example that if you're here for other people, they will be there for you too."The driver of the vehicle, 16-year-old Andrew Sober, and another passenger, 18-year-old Ryan Duvall, were killed in the crash.A third passenger, a 15-year-old, was taken to a hospital after the crash and has since been released. He was in attendance to welcome home his friend, Liam, on Friday."He was here, and he was showing me (his) brace on his wrist, and he's got some bandages around his abdomen still. He's just hanging out with the buddies like normal teenage boys and having a great time reconnecting," said Katie Kavalsky, a family friend. "As a community, we've all been kind of joining them in their journey for the past month. It's just been a wild ride, and we are so grateful to have this happy ending for Liam to be able to come home."
