Three injured in car accident involving police vehicle.

The Erie police department responded to a collision in the city on Friday morning, involving a police cruiser. The incident occurred at the intersection of West 11th and Sassafras streets around 7 a.m. Two vehicles were involved in the crash, one being an Erie Police Department cruiser with significant front-end damage, and the other a red compact car with severe damage on the passenger side. Deputy Chief Rick Lorah of the City of Erie stated that an officer was headed south on Sassafras with emergency lights and sirens activated, responding to a call for backup from another officer when the cruiser collided with the other vehicle at the intersection. The impact caused the compact car to veer onto the sidewalk along West 11th Street, coming to a stop between a tree and a building. Those involved in the incident, including the officer, the driver of the other vehicle, and an additional person, were transported to UPMC Hamot for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
