Three individuals, which include a Wilkes County Sheriff's Office deputy, have tragically lost their lives in a collision, with two others sustaining injuries, as reported by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The incident, which occurred on Friday evening on Red White and Blue Road near Ruth Linny Road, involved a head-on crash between a 2003 Jeep Liberty and a 2018 Nissan Altima. The driver of the Jeep, identified as Randy Johnson, 62, was fatally injured on impact. The Nissan driver, Johnathan Laws, 34, also passed away at a local hospital following medical transport via helicopter. A passenger in the Jeep, Vickie Key, 72, also lost her life at the crash site. Additionally, two other passengers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The responding fire and rescue crews encountered three individuals requiring extrication. The highway was temporarily closed for the investigation. Initial findings do not suggest that speed or alcohol played a role in the collision.
