Teenager charged in Rockford crash involving stolen vehicle

A 15-year-old Rockford teenager was taken into custody by Rockford Police after he took a car without permission and drove it into a house last Sunday. The incident occurred when officers from the Specialized Community Oriented Policing Enforcement division noticed a stolen vehicle and tried to pull it over at approximately 6:40 p.m. The car was carrying three other 15-year-old boys, and when the driver tried to flee, he lost control and crashed into an empty house on Glenwood Avenue. The driver faces charges including possessing a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing, driving without a valid license, and failing to slow down to prevent an accident. He has been transferred to Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center, while the other two boys were released to their families.
