Teen lifeguard injured by beach umbrella back on duty: 'I'm doing well'
An 18-year-old New Jersey lifeguard named Alex Kaus who was impaled by a beach umbrella while on duty at Asbury Park's 3rd Avenue Beach last month has shared her experience about the near-fatal incident. Kaus, who was setting up the umbrella when a gust of wind caused her to fall onto the pole, expressed that she is doing well physically, according to NJ.com. After being found with the stake through her left shoulder, she was swiftly taken to the hospital with the help of first responders. Despite the accident, Kaus has already returned to work but is currently assisting with beach badge checks as she recovers. She is looking forward to getting back to lifeguarding duty once medically cleared. Kaus appreciates the support of her fellow lifeguards and emphasizes the importance of recognizing the hard work lifeguards do each day to ensure beach safety.
