Teen killed in U.S. 21 collision; 18-year-old driver arrested, officials report
A tragic incident occurred in the Piedmont Triad where a 14-year-old boy lost his life following a collision, as reported by troopers of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The crash took place on U.S. 21 near South Center Church Road in Wilkes County on July 26 at approximately 2:35 p.m. A Chevrolet 1500 collided with a Dodge Ram after failing to slow down. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained non-life-threatening injuries and the passenger, identified as Trenton Ryan Anderson, 14, was critically injured. Despite being rushed to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Anderson succumbed to his injuries on July 30. Shockingly, Anderson was not wearing a seat belt at the time. The driver of the Dodge was unharmed, while one passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Troopers do not believe impairment played a role in the accident. The driver of the Chevrolet, Samuel Nelson, 18, faces charges including misdemeanor death by vehicle, careless and reckless driving, failure to reduce speed, and failure to secure a juvenile passenger.
