Teen from Scott County gives back on 12th year after life-altering accident

A teenage resident of Scott County is commemorating the 12th anniversary of a tragic event by giving back to others in a meaningful way. Sixteen-year-old Katie Eddington recently donated blood for the first time on the day she suffered a serious lawnmower accident at the age of 4. The Scott County High School student attributes blood donations to saving her life after facing numerous surgeries and losing her right leg due to the accident. Katie's mother, Samantha Eddington, expressed mixed emotions about the difficult anniversary. Katie has been hosting an annual "Katie Gives Back Blood Drive" through the Kentucky Blood Center for the past three years to benefit others and create a positive focus on the challenging date. Katie plans to involve more friends by moving the blood drive to Scott County High School next year. Samantha emphasized the critical role of blood donation in her daughter's recovery, urging others to consider donating as well.
