Teen from Pleasantville dies in car accident
A tragic car accident took the life of a 16-year-old Pleasantville resident over the weekend. The Iowa State Patrol reported that Donald McCormick, a junior at Pleasantville High School, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by another 16-year-old when the incident occurred on Highway 5 near 200th Avenue in Warren County. The driver lost control of the car, which led to it rolling over into a ditch. Despite both teens wearing seatbelts, McCormick was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was taken to a hospital for treatment. The school's superintendent, Tony Aylsworth, expressed condolences to McCormick's family, friends, and the wider school community, noting the significant impact of his loss. Support services will be available at the Pleasantville High School Events Center, including counselors and grief support staff starting Monday. A vigil organized by the Pleasantville Youth Initiative will take place on Tuesday at the school's Events Center, offering professional and emotional support. The community is invited to pay tribute, share memories, and find comfort during this difficult time.
