A teenager from Minnesota is facing charges of criminal vehicular homicide in connection with a tragic drunk driving accident that occurred shortly after his high school graduation. The young man, Izak Schermerhorn, has been charged with three counts of criminal vehicular homicide after a crash that resulted in the death of his classmate, Blake Unger. According to reports, the incident took place on May 27th when Schermerhorn lost control of a truck and rolled into a ditch in Bluffton Township. Investigators believe Schermerhorn was intoxicated and had been driving recklessly before the crash. The complaint alleges that Schermerhorn admitted to drinking three to four alcoholic beverages and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.13. Despite expressing remorse at the scene, Schermerhorn shared that he had not consumed alcohol for a year but chose to celebrate his graduation that weekend. He appeared in court on Thursday and was released on bail under specific conditions. This tragedy has deeply impacted the New York Mills community, with an online fundraiser set up to support Unger's family. Unger, a respected multi-sport athlete and homecoming king, will be remembered at a memorial service next week.
